How Long Can You Drive On A Bad CV Axle?

There is no definite answer to this because the condition of the CV axle in particular vehicles can be different from others. Most of the time, we have no control over the factors which can affect our vehicle parts, especially the CV axle.

Although you can still use your ATV/UTV when the CV axle is failing, it can pose a threat to your life if you don’t get it inspected sooner. As time goes by, the failure can be worse from day today. A worse situation could happen if you leave it unfixed.

So, how long can you use your bad CV axle? Let’s get down to the answer. The answer will be relative from one CV axle to another. It could take weeks, months, or years. But the average lifespan of a bad CV axle is around five to six months. Knowing this does not merely mean to stretch the deadline a little bit. You might be thinking that you can save more money by postponing the checkup for your ATV/UTV. But I’d suggest you take your vehicle to the service center as soon as possible. While it is true that your CV axle can still last for a few months, you must realize that it can tamper with the other parts of your vehicle.

The last thing you want is to spend more money on something that you are not supposed to do. So, take my advice and buy your replacement part here and you will thank me later.

The six months range is the best that you can get when you live in a dryer place. But if your areas receive rain, snow, or humidity often, the lifespan can be much shorter than six months.

Ideal thing to do- Weeks after seeing the signs, you need to head up to your nearby mechanic so that you can fix the problem as soon as possible before it tampers other auto parts in your ATV/UTV.

If you do happen to live in a rainy area, your bad CV axle can get worse quickly. And you shouldn’t wait for six months to get it fixed or replaced.

If your CV axle has a leaky boot, it will get damaged faster when exposed to the rain and snow. More dirt and outer elements will get inside the part and it will deteriorate the CV axle from the inside. At this point, it is not safe. Taking your vehicle to the nearby service center will be the most appropriate approach to take.
